Torrington Declares State of Emergency as Roads Blocked by Storm Damage

CONNECTICUT :Torrington has declared a state of emergency and is asking all residents to shelter in place as crews respond to dangerous storm damage across the city.

According to our reporter Nima Sherpa, the southern bend of Newfield Road is still fully blocked this evening. Several power poles are down, wires are pulled tight across the road, and many trees are tangled in the lines. A straight line of broken treetops shows how strong the wind force was in this area.

Because of the heavy damage, it may take a long time before this part of Newfield Road is safe to drive again. Power restoration for homes north of the damaged area — including Newfield, Meyer, Guerdat, and nearby roads — is expected to take even longer.

Residents can still reach Newfield Road by using:

• Norfolk Rd. → Marshall Lake Rd.
• Winchester Center → Burr Mountain Rd.

Mountain Road Also Blocked

At around 1:15 PM, the southern end of Mountain Road was found to be impassable. A transformer pole is down, and a large tree is hanging over the roadway. Drivers should use Stillwater Pond Road, which is clear. City crews and utility workers are working across Torrington to clear roads, remove fallen trees, and repair damaged power lines. Residents are asked to stay home, avoid blocked areas, and allow emergency teams to work safely.
