64‑Year‑Old Woman Rescued Alive After 11 Days in Nepal Flood

KATHMANDU- A 64‑year‑old woman, trapped for 11 long days after the Bhotekoshi flood, has been rescued alive from a damaged house in Betrawati, Nuwakot. The survivor, Chandrika Shrestha of Bidur Municipality‑10, had been stuck inside the fourth floor of the building since the disaster struck.

The rescue happened on Friday when a team from the Armed Police Force (APF), led by Inspector Suman BK, was clearing debris from flood‑hit houses. While working, the team suddenly heard a faint voice calling for help. APF Deputy Superintendent Birendra Raut said the team immediately stopped their debris work and launched a rescue operation.

Shrestha was found unconscious, weak, and partly buried in mud. She had survived alone for many days without proper food, water, or medical care. According to a post by Dipa Dahal, press and research adviser to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Shrestha was carefully pulled out from the damaged structure and given emergency first aid on the spot.

After stabilizing her condition, she was flown by helicopter to the Nepal Army’s Maithili Barracks in Trishuli for further medical attention. Officials said she will be taken to Kathmandu if doctors decide she needs advanced treatment.

Her rescue has brought new hope to families still waiting for news about missing people after the flood. Many homes in Nuwakot and surrounding areas were destroyed, and rescue teams continue searching through debris and damaged buildings.

Shrestha’s survival after 11 days has been described as a remarkable moment in the ongoing disaster response, showing the dedication of rescue teams and the strength of human survival even in extreme conditions.
