Nepal Medical Council revokes licenses of 17 doctors over foreign citizenship

CONNECTICUT– The Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has removed 17 doctors from its official medical registry after confirming that they had renounced Nepali citizenship and obtained foreign nationality. The decision, issued on Friday, took effect immediately.

According to the council, the action was taken under the Nepal Medical Council Act 1964, Regulations 1968, and the Citizenship Act 2006, which state that a medical license issued to a Nepali citizen becomes automatically invalid once that individual acquires foreign citizenship.

The doctors whose registrations were canceled had taken citizenship in several countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Portugal, and India. The council said each case was verified through official documentation before the names were removed.

6. Dr. Nityananda Dev Pandey — American citizen
7. Dr. Ramesh C. C. — American citizen
8. Dr. Rajiv Hamal — Portuguese citizen
9. Dr. Sanjay Singh Thapa — British citizen
10. Dr. Ramesh C. C. — American citizen (second registration entry)
11. Dr. Jona Shahi — British citizen
12. Dr. Manju Maya Gurung — British citizen
13. Dr. Ranjan Thapa — Australian citizen
14. Dr. Dipak Kamal — British citizen
15. Dr. Kumar Satyavrat — Indian citizen
16–17. Two additional names were included in the full NMC notice but were not visible in the publicly circulated screenshot.

The NMC said the update was necessary to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the national medical registry, emphasizing that only Nepali citizens are legally eligible to hold a valid medical license in Nepal.
