The demonstrations stem from initial online reporting regarding the death of Lobga Rangzen, a 52-year-old Tibetan activist who died following a self-immolation protest outside the United Nations headquarters. The demonstration had been carried out to protest policies impacting Tibetan identity and autonomy.
