President Trump evacuated after security incident at White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Washington, D.C. –
A man with several weapons was arrested after attempting to run through a Secret Service checkpoint at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night. The incident caused a brief panic at the Washington Hilton, where President Donald Trump, the First Lady, government officials, journalists, and more than 2,600 guests were attending the annual event.
According to the Secret Service, the suspect — 31‑year‑old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California — ran at high speed toward the security screening area. Officers say he was carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
Secret Service agents opened fire when the man ignored commands to stop. One officer was hit in the vest but did not suffer serious injuries. The suspect was quickly tackled and taken into custody. He was not shot.
President Trump and the First Lady were safely evacuated from the ballroom within seconds. Guests reported hearing gunshots and seeing people take cover under tables before security teams announced that the situation was under control.
Investigators say the suspect acted alone. His motive has not yet been confirmed. He is expected to face federal charges, including assault on a federal officer and using a firearm during a crime of violence.
The White House said the President returned safely after the event and praised the Secret Service for its fast response.
