New York City expands free college access for all residents

NEW YORK– New York State is launching a new tuition-free community college program this fall, aimed at helping adult learners enter high-demand industries. The initiative, called SUNY Reconnect, will provide full tuition, fees, books, and supplies to eligible residents who do not yet have a college degree and enroll in career-focused programs such as nursing, education, technology, and engineering.

Governor Kathy Hochul has emphasized that the program is designed to strengthen New York’s workforce and create pathways to stable careers for adults aged 25 to 55. Prospective students can choose to study part-time or full-time, and local community colleges will host informational sessions over the summer.
