Late season snow hits Torrington, Connecticut

Torrington, CT—Residents of Torrington and surrounding areas woke up to a wintry surprise this **April Saturday morning**, as a **nor’easter** delivered an unexpected mix of **snow and rain**, disrupting what many hoped would be a full-fledged transition to spring. While Connecticut is no stranger to unpredictable weather, snowfall this late in the season is a rare sight—reminding locals that winter’s grip can linger well into spring.

The storm brought  light accumulations  across Litchfield County, with varying snow totals depending on elevation and location. While lower-lying areas saw just a light dusting, higher elevations recorded up to a few inches of wet snow. Along with snowfall, gusty winds contributed to slushy road conditions and occasional reduced visibility, creating hazardous travel concerns throughout the morning hours.

Local meteorologists attributed the late-season snowfall to cold air mixing with moisture from the Atlantic, a combination that allowed for wintry conditions despite the warming trend typical for mid-April. The storm is expected to gradually move eastward** by evening, leading to clearer skies and more seasonable temperatures by Sunday.

For those hoping to embrace spring activities, the return to winter-like conditions came as a disappointment. However, for others, the sight of snowflakes swirling through the air made for a scenic, albeit brief, moment of winter nostalgia.

Nima Sherpa , Khumbule media editor living in Torrington, reflected on the unexpected snowfall, saying, _“Torrington   weather is full of surprises. Just when we think winter is behind us, it reminds us it’s not quite done yet.”_

Despite the chilly interruption, the forecast shows a **warming trend for the upcoming week**, with temperatures rising steadily into the 50s and 60s—offering hope that spring may soon reclaim its place for good.
