Gen Z Protesters Flood New Delhi, Demand Modi’s Resignation

New Delhi, India — India’s Gen Z protesters are preparing a massive march toward Parliament, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Education Minister after a series of exam scandals that have caused nationwide anger. Tens of thousands of Gen Z demonstrators are expected to join the march from Jantar Mantar, the country’s most well‑known protest site located in the center of the capital.

For almost a month, supporters of the viral “cockroach movement” have occupied Jantar Mantar. The movement began online as a joke but quickly turned into a serious protest after repeated exam paper leaks, technical failures during tests, and cancelled exams disrupted the futures of millions of students. These issues have created frustration across India, especially among Gen Z, who depend on these exams for jobs, college admissions, and career opportunities.

Protesters say the exam system is broken and that the government has failed to protect students. Many Gen Z demonstrators traveled long distances to join the sit‑in, turning Jantar Mantar into a crowded protest camp filled with banners, speeches, and social‑media livestreams. Police have set up heavy security around Parliament, with barricades and officers positioned along the planned march route.

Alongside the protesters, some members of the public have also voiced strong opinions.
Nima Sherpa, a Nepali‑American living in Connecticut, shared his view, saying:

“Narendra Modi is too old and corrupt. India needs a fresh, young leader to run the country and bring real change.”

His statement reflects the frustration many Gen Z protesters feel toward the current leadership, which they accuse of ignoring student concerns and failing to fix the exam system.
