DMC of Solu Khumbu takes key decisions to aid Thame flood victims

KHUMBU – The District Disaster Management Committee of Solukhumbu has concluded a significant meeting under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Anoj Kumar Ghimire. The meeting resulted in several vital decisions aimed at supporting victims of recent natural disasters and addressing infrastructure damages in the region.

One of the key decisions includes providing the first installment of NPR 25,000 to 50 families whose homes were damaged during the Thame flood on Saun 32 (August 16, 2024). This initiative aims to assist affected families in constructing temporary housing and rebuilding their lives.

Further, recognizing the damages caused by landslides to the under-construction Sherpa Community Building in Solududhkunda Municipality-5, the committee decided to recommend a technical cost estimate for managing the landslide to the Urban Development and Building Office.

Additionally, the meeting resolved to send a proposal to the Ministry of Water Supply, Irrigation, and Energy in Koshi Province for repairing 31 infrastructures affected by heavy rainfall from Asoj 10 to 13.

Other resolutions include:
– Recommending budget allocations to rebuild houses damaged by landslides.
– Advocating for funds to support victims of fire incidents.
– Ensuring disaster management materials and fire trucks in Solududhkunda Municipality and Sotang Rural Municipality remain in a state of readiness.

During the meeting, Chief District Officer Ghimire urged local governments to actively utilize their resources for disaster management. Koshi Province Assembly member and former minister Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari also emphasized his commitment to raising district concerns at the provincial level.

These decisions mark significant steps in addressing the immediate needs of disaster victims and rebuilding damaged infrastructure.
