Local resident donates land for reconstruction of Thame health post

NAMCHE – In a significant act of generosity, Nima Sherpini, a local resident, has donated land valued at 3.5 million Nepali rupees for the reconstruction of Thame Health Post. This health facility was entirely destroyed by floods caused by a glacier avalanche on July 16th.

The donation, made in memory of her late husband, Sange Chotar Sherpa, comes in response to a request from the Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality. The 130 square meters of land has been officially transferred to the Himalayan Trust Nepal through the Solukhumbu Land Revenue Office.

Dr. Kami Temba Sherpa, a founding member of the Himalayan Trust Nepal, expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are deeply thankful for Nima Sherpini’s benevolent contribution, which will enable us to restore essential health services to the community.” The health post, previously operating temporarily from a rented house after the disaster, had provided free primary treatment to women, senior citizens, disabled individuals, and children.

The Himalayan Trust plans to construct a new health post on the donated land, with an estimated budget of around 10 million Nepali rupees. This project will help resume free health services, crucial for the well-being of the Thame region’s residents.

Local officials, community members, and representatives of the Himalayan Trust have lauded Sherpini’s heartfelt donation, recognizing it as a vital step towards the restoration of healthcare services in the area.
