Tibetans in Boston observe 65th anniversary of Tibetan uprising day

BOSTON– Every year, on the occasion of Tibetan Uprising Day, Tibetans worldwide gather to honour the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Tibetan struggle.

In North America, there are 30 Tibetan associations. While most Tibetan associations took the lead in organising commemorations, some collaborated with NGOs. These initiatives remembered the historic resistance movement in Lhasa on March 10, 1959, and the CCP’s brutal repression of Tibetans inside Tibet.

The Tibetan Association of Massachusetts held a series of events Sunday commemorating the day, starting with a raising of the Tibetan flag at Amherst City Hall. They then marched to Northampton City Hall and Easthampton City Hall for a second and third flag-raising.

Each flag raising was accompanied by speeches and prayers for peace.
