Tesla begins Robotaxi rides in Texas

Texas – Tesla has started offering driverless car rides in Austin. The new “Robotaxi” service lets people take rides in electric cars that drive themselves. Right now, only a small group of invited users can try it.

The cars used are Tesla Model Y vehicles. There’s no driver behind the wheel, but a Tesla worker sits in the front passenger seat to make sure everything goes smoothly.

The Robotaxi service is running in South Austin from 6 a.m. to midnight. It costs $4.20 per ride. The cars won’t go to the airport and won’t drive in bad weather—for safety reasons.

Tesla says if the tests go well, more people in more cities might be able to use Robotaxi rides in the future.
