Namche youth group celebrates 25years of service and impact

KHUMBU – The Namche Youth Group is commemorating its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of unwavering dedication, resilience, and impactful service to the community.

The group’s significant contributions have left an indelible mark on the region and its people.

Established 25 years ago, the Namche Youth Group has tirelessly worked towards the betterment of the community. Their notable projects include the construction of the Porter Shelter, providing affordable meals to porters who form the backbone of trekking in the Khumbu region. The group has also been involved in clean-up operations, rescues, cultural preservation, and disaster relief efforts.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Namche Youth Group launched the Khumbu Pro-Action Program. This initiative focused on raising awareness about hygiene and safety, aiding the revival of tourism, and preparing Khumbu to welcome visitors once again.

Sherpa Mingma, Chairperson of the Namche Youth Group, expressed gratitude in a social media post, saying, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to all partners, former presidents, committee members, and active youth who have contributed to our journey over the past 25 years. Your dedication has shaped our path, and together, we continue to create a stronger, better community.”
