Former US President Jimmy Carter dies at 100
CONNECTICUT– Former US President Jimmy Carter, a man who redefined what a post-presidency could be, died Sunday. He was 100.
Carter, the longest-serving U.S. president, entered home hospice care in Plains, Georgia, in February 2023 after multiple brief hospitalizations. The only Georgian elected president, he served one term marked by the Israel-Egypt peace agreement but marred by the Iran hostage crisis. His reputation improved over the years due to his and wife Rosalynn’s work at the Carter Center and philanthropic efforts like Habitat for Humanity.
Jimmy Carter, former president and leader of the Carter Center, received numerous accolades, including the Nobel Prize and the United Nations Human Rights Prize. He and his wife, Rosalynn, were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Bill Clinton, who praised their extensive humanitarian impact. Rosalynn Carter passed away in November 2023. They are survived by their children Amy, Chip, Jack, and Jeff, along with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
