Diversity visa lottery registration opens october 2
The registration period for the Green Card lottery, which grants the right to live and work in the United States, has been announced.
The State Department will begin accepting online registrations for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Diversity Visa (DV) lottery starting Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
Foreign nationals who wish to enter the lottery have until Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at noon EST to file online.
For FY 2026, the DV lottery program will make up to 55,000 green card numbers available through random selection. FY 2026 lottery results will be announced in May 2025. Foreign nationals selected in the FY 2026 lottery can submit their green card applications starting on October 1, 2025.
Applicants are reminded that submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification. Additionally, photos used in the application must be taken within six months prior to submission. Incomplete or incorrect information may also lead to disqualification.
Upon successful submission, applicants will receive a unique confirmation number, which must be saved as it will be the only way to check lottery results in May 2025.
